Trails to be repaired and rerouted throughout State parks

Some of the most popular hiking trails in South Carolina's parks are being repaired and partly rerouted this winter.
Heavy summer rains damaged state parks' hiking trails. The worst erosion damage occurred on the Hospital Rock Trail at Jones Gap State Park in Greenville County, due to a rock slide in early June. State parks director Phil Gaines says it remains closed and must be rerouted.
Other trails need minor repairs and slight reroutes.
Gaines says state parks employees throughout the state will be helping with repairs in the mountain parks during the winter. The agency saves money by handling repairs in-house, spending about $1,000 on tools.
