Tropical Storm Gabrielle develops in the Caribbean

Columbia (WACH/NHC) -- Things are getting stormy in the Caribbean and Atlantic as Tropical Storm Gabrielle has formed.
As of 5:00 Thursday morning Gabrielle was located about 40 miles south-southwest of Ponce Puerto Rico, and moving northwest at 8 mph.
Tropical storm watches have been issued in the Dominican Republic from Santo Domingo to Cabo Frances Viejo.
A tropical storm watch means that conditions are favorable for an area within 48 hours.
In this case, the areas under the watch will see tropical activity next 12 to 24 hours.
Tropical storm warnings have been issued for Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic from Cabo Engano to Cabo Frances Viejo.
Tropical storm warnings are issued when conditions are expected within 36 hours for the warned areas.
In this case the warned areas will see tropical activity in the next 12 to 24 hours.
