RICHLAND COUNTY (WACH) - One person is dead following a two car accident near the Richland - Calhoun County line.
According to Lance Corporal Brent Kelly of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a car and a log truck collided on Highway 601 shortly before noon. The wreck forced the Highway Patrol to close Highway 601. The driver of the Log Truck was reported dead. The driver of the Honda four door was taken to an area hospital.
Kelly said the accident happened after the log truck was traveling south along McCord's Ferry Road (U.S. 601) hit a guard rail and overcorrected. The log truck overcorrected and struck a Conway man traveling North. The Conway man was transported to a Columbia area hospital for his injuries. The driver, a 48-year-old Louis F. Grabowski of Summerton, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Grabowski wasn't killed by the wreck. He made it out of his truck safely, but died of a heart attack after leaving his truck.
