Two men killed in Cheraw train accident

Two men were killed after an Amtrak train collided with their pickup truck in Chesterfield County Monday morning.

CHERAW (WPDE) -- Chesterfield County Coroner Kip Kiser identified the two people killed in an accident involving an Amtrak train as Glenn Locklear, 52, and Barney Driggers, 56.

An Amtrak train collided with their pickup truck in Chesterfield County Monday morning.

Cheraw Police Chief Jay Brooks says the accident happened around 7:30 a.m. on East Market Street in Cheraw.

Brooks says the men worked for the City Of Cheraw as maintenance workers. He says they were driving a city boom truck, which picks up debris. Brooks says they were picking up leaves and limbs from a storm Saturday night.

Brooks confirms that the railroad track had no crossing arms. He says that's possibly because there usually isn't a lot of traffic in the area. He referred us to CSX officials for further comment.

South Carolina Highway Patrol isn't saying who was driving the truck. They are investigating.

Cheraw police and investigators are expected to be on scene throughout the day.
