Tyler's Travels: Getting to the Green

Tyler's Travels went to Five Points for a look at the St. Pat's party

COLUMBIA (WACH) â?? Tylerâ??s Travels: Getting into the Green

Itâ??s hard to believe that weâ??re already pushing into mid-March, and with that, the annual celebration of all things green with the St. Patâ??s in

Five Points

The event, attended each year by about 40,000 people, has been going strong for the last 32 years, and organizers plan an even bigger and better event this year, as the celebration kicks off Saturday morning.

According to

Five Points Association

Executive Director Amy Beth Franks, the morning will begin with the Get to the Green road race, including a 10K, 5K, and 1 mile family run. The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m., and take itâ??s traditional route down Devine Street, crossing harden, down Saulda, and back out onto Harden.

Other points of interest in the day long festival include free family fun at MLK Park, and â??Shagging on Santee,â?? where members of the Capital City Shag Club will be giving lessons to newbies.

Franks said that one change to the schedule is an addition of an hour to the festival, giving more time for the music acts, which take place on 5 stages to entertain the crowd.
