COLUMBIA (WACH) â?? Tylerâ??s Travel Log: Tartan Day South

It was on April 6 1320 that Declaration of Arbroath was signed in Scotland, and a few hundred years later, New York Governor Hugh Carey and Big Apple Mayor Ed Koch created Tartan Day, celebrating Scottish heritage, and marking the historic day.

Over the last 4 years, thousands have gathered at the Columbia Speedway to watch atheletes, donned in authentic Scottish attire, compete in events like the 56 pound throw, the hammer throw, and sheaf toss in the Tartan Day South celebration.

The 2014 events begin on Thursday with a viewing of â??Prideâ?? at the West Columbia Amphitheather, music on Friday, and of course the games on Saturday.

In addition to the games, there will be entertainment, vendors, education, and more, all celebrating the rich heritage of the Scottish.

Tickets for Saturdayâ??s game are $10 for adults and $5 for children. You can find more information HERE.
