COLUMBIA (WACH) -- United Way of the Midlands, along with the Cooperative Ministry, is offering free tax preparation services.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program began in the Midlands 30 years ago.
The goal is to help lower-income familes, who earn less than $50,000 a year, get their taxes done correctly and for free.
You may call 211 on any phone, 24 hours a day, to set up an appointment until April 15th.
What do I need to bring?
-Proof of identification
-Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return
-Social Security cards for you, your spouse and dependents and/or Social Security number verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration
-Current yearâ??s tax package if you received one
-Wage and earning statement(s) Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, from all employers
Interest and dividend statements from banks (forms 1099)
-A copy of last yearâ??s federal and state returns if available Bank routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit
-Total paid for day care provider and the day care providerâ??s tax identifying number (the providerâ??s Social Security Number or the providerâ??s business Employer Identification Number)
