UPDATE: Car crashes into home near USC

The Columbia Police Department and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are still searching for the person responsible for crashing into a home on Pickens and Rice Street.

COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - The Columbia Police Department and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are still searching for the person responsible for crashing into a home on the corner of Pickens and Rice streets. According to officials, the car and the home caught on fire.

South Carolina Highway Patrol says that a traffic safety checkpoint was underway when the driver fled the scene, because the person did not have a license to drive.

A SCHP trooper went looking for the driver, but moments later the trooper was contacted by CPD about a car crashing into a home.

Officials say it was determined that the car at the scene of the collision was the same car that fled from the traffic safety checkpoint.

There have been no injuries reported in this case.
