COLUMBIA (WACH) - A small earthquake occured Wednesday evening near Summerville, just north of Charleston.
The tectonic shift happening at 6:38pm with the epicenter in Centerville, about 86 miles SE of Columbia with a depth of 3.4 miles. This is a relatively small event, and there have been no reports of damage or injury at this time. Originally thought to be a 2.5, around 8:00pm the USGS upgraded the magnitude to a 3.0.
South Carolina has a moderate history of earthquakes, with the most recent occuring in Edgefield SC on Valentines Day , which registered at a 4.1 on the Richter Scale.
