      UPDATE: Former Gamecock expected to be released Tuesday from hospital

      According to the University of South Carolinaâ??s team physician, Dr. Jeffrey Guy, Kenny Miles sustained a soft tissue injury from a gunshot wound to his forearm during a Monday afternoon shooting.

      IRMO, SC (WACH) - According to the University of South Carolina??s team physician, Dr. Jeffrey Guy, Kenny Miles sustained a soft tissue injury from a gunshot wound to his forearm during a Monday afternoon shooting.

      The former USC running back will be kept in the hospital overnight for observation, and is expected to be released on Tuesday.

      According to the Richland County Sheriff's Department, Miles was shot near an Irmo business park Monday afternoon.

      Richland County spokesperson Sgt. Curtis Wilson said at around 1:00 p.m., Miles was shot during a robbery attempt.

      On the way to the hospital, Miles was alert and able to give officials a description of the shooter.

      "We are now searching for the individual responsible," said Wilson.

      Miles played for the Gamecocks from 2008 to 2012. He rushed for 1,342 yards and scored five touchdowns in his collegiate career. Miles graduated from USC with a degree in criminal justice.

      The Richland County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate Monday??s shooting.
