Demichael Mayers

LEXINGTON (WACH) -- A man was arrested in connection with the shooting that happened on Tuesday afternoon outside of a home on Bayfield Lane near Chapin.

According to Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts, Jeffrey Lewis Hentz, 22, of Nursery Road, Little Mountain, turned himself in to detectives on an arrest warrant on a charge of attempted murder at about 11am on Wednesday in Chapin.

Hentz was booked at the Lexington County Detention Center, where he is awaiting a bond hearing.

Detectives also obtained an arrest warrant on a charge for attempted murder for 20-year-old Demichael Edward Mayers, who lives in Little Mountain and remains on the run in connection with the shooting incident.

Mayers is 6-foot and weights 190. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Arrest warrants allege that on Tuesday, Hentz and Mayers became involved in a verbal dispute with Antonio Williams, 34, or Prosperity, outside a home on Bayfield Lane near Chapin.

The shooting does not appear to have been a random act. Witnesses told detectives that Hentz and Mayers each were armed with firearms at the time of the dispute with Williams. During the dispute, Metz shot Williams with a firearm, injuring Williams in his upper torso. The dispute remains under investigation.

Williams was transported to an area hospital, where he successfully underwent surgery. He was listed in stable condition on Wednesday.

Metts asks if anyone with information about the shooting incident or the whereabouts of Mayers to contact the Lexington County Sheriffâ??s Department (803) 785-8230 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
