RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WACH) -- Investigators have determined the identity of the man killed in a shootout Thursday night in Irmo, after he was accused of robbing a store and fleeing from deputies.
The suspect is identified as a 34-year-old Asian male, according to Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott. His name will not be released until next-of-kin are notified.
The man is accused of committing an armed robbery at Sam's Food Mart on Broad River Road, then fleeing the scene in a stolen truck, according to Lott.
Deputies chased the truck down Broad River Road until it wrecked in front of Fatz Cafe, according to Lott.
After his truck wrecked, the man began shooting at deputies; they returned fire, killing the man, according to Lott.
