Update: Two Presbyterian College students killed in crash

Newberry (WACH) -- The victims of a car crash involving an ambulance responding to a call have been identified.

Leah Kraemer, 22, and Sarah Doelker, 23 were killed. They were students at Presbyterian College.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said it happened Friday night on US 76 about 7.5 miles west of Newberry.

Patrol said, a Volkswagen Jetta pulled to the side of the road to yield to the ambulance which was traveling with lights and sirens on. The car and ambulance crashed. Two women in the car from Germany were killed.

John Griffith, President of Presbyterian College, released the following statement.

"Last night we learned that a group of our students was involved in an automobile accident and that two of them were killed. This tragedy touches all of us as members of a community. We are saddened and shaken by our loss. My prayers go out to the families of these young people and especially those who lost their children last night. We ask that the public, including the media, respect the privacy of our students as we mourn. Please keep us in your prayers."
