GREENVILLE (WHNS) -- A Greenville County teenager is charged with murder after deputies said he gunned down his mother and critically wounded his brother Sunday.

The shooting happened about 10:30 p.m. at 15 McLindon Drive, which is near Florida Avenue.

Greenville County deputies said they received a 911 call from someone who said he had just shot his mother and brother. They said that person was later identified as 17-year-old Joshua Mceachern.

Investigators said about 9:30 p.m., Mceachern shot his mother, 59-year-old Kathy Mceachern, and his brother, 21-year-old Daniel Mceachern, several times with a handgun. They said the mother was pronounced dead at the scene. The brother was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

Neighbors said the community usually is very quiet.

"There were cop cars lined up," said Jessi Corn, who lives near the scene of the shooting. "There were two K-9 units. There were three ambulances. It scared me because we've lived out here forever and nothing like this has ever happened."

Deputies said the motive of the shooting was not immediately clear, but the shooting followed a brief argument

A judge has denied bond for Mceachern Monday.
