USC graduates hear from a special speaker

Country star and Gamecock Alum Darius Rucker was the keynote speaker at Saturday morning's graduation for the College of Arts and Sciences and the Honors College.

COLUMBIA, SC (WACH)--Thousands of graduating USC students got some words of wisdom from one of their own.

Country star and Gamecock Alum Darius Rucker was the keynote speaker at Saturday morning's graduation for the College of Arts and Sciences and the Honors College at Colonial Life Arena.

Rucker also received an Honorary Doctor of Music Degree. He and three other USC students formed the band Hootie and the Blowfish in 1986.

Rucker encouraged graduates to make the most of their dreams.

"Those people who are not afraid to chase their drams go far, far beyond," Rucker said. "The people that let their actions follow the path of their dreams create great things for our world. The combination of actions and dreams opens the way to millions of advancements."

Rucker now has a solo singing career. He graduated USC's College of Mass Communications and Information Studies.
