USC hosts 500 international ultrasound experts
Fri, 27 Sep 2013 11:40:41 GMT — COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The University of South Carolina is hosting more than 500 experts from 20 countries at an international conference on ultrasounds in medical education.
University spokesman Jeff Stensland says the conference opens Friday and runs through Sunday at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.
Stensland says advances in medical technology allow ultrasounds to be used for many more issues than pregnancies.
They are used around the world to diagnose broken bones and damaged organs. Now that some ultrasound devices are so small they may fit in the palm of the hand, they are used to diagnose problems in the world's most remote regions.
Stensland says experts from Brazil, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, India, China and South Korea are coming to the event.
