COLUMBIA (WACH) - A 20-year-old man from Virginia has been arrested in connection with a bomb threat at a Midlands high school.
Lexington County Sheriff James Metts says Lexington County detectives assisted the Prince William County Police Department in Virginia in developing information that led to the arrest of Tyler Hering.
Hering is accused of communicating a bomb threat to White Knoll High School in Lexington on April 22. The charge is a felony.
Metts says Hering was being held without bond on Wednesday at a jail in Virginia. He will not face charges in Lexington County because the bomb threat was communicated from Virginia.
Authorities say Hering does not have any ties to White Knoll High School or South Carolina. They believe the school was randomly selected for the threat.
Lexington School District One officials made the decision to dismiss White Knoll High School on April 22 as a precaution.
Metts says the school was searched and nothing was found on school grounds that posed a threat to students, faculty or staff at the school.
