COLUMBIA (WACH) -- It's national walk at lunch day and walkers packed the Statehouse to take a stroll during their lunch break.
Dr. Laura Long with BlueCross BlueShield says moderate exercise, such as brisk walks, can have significant impact on your health and walking during your lunch break is a great way for all of us to make time for exercise, as we juggle work and other commitments that demand so much of our time.
Long adds exercise can help people manage weight, strengthen muscles, reduce stress, and lower their risk of heart attack, stroke and diabetes.
National Walk at Lunch Day can mark the start of a commitment to walk every day, and that most of our schedules are built around the workday, so lunchtime walks are designed to fit into - not compete with - our daily routines.
