COLUMBIA (WACH) - Some took advantage of this gorgeous sunny day to support a good cause.
The JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes was held at Finlay Park this afternoon.
The event helps raise money for Type One diabetes research.
JDRF is the leading global organization focused on Type One diabetes research.
And as one mother will tell you, diabetes is a difficult thing to watch a loved one deal with on a daily basis.
"I'm very proud of my daughter. She does an amazing job living with this chronic disease. But she will tell you that it's anything but normal. It's not normal to have to check your blood sugar 10 to 12 times a day and to count carbs. But it's the thing she has to do to stay healthy and alive." says Beth McCrary, whose 12 year old daughter has Type One diabetes.
JDRF holds more than 200 walks nationally every year.
So far it has raised one billion dollars for diabetes research.
At last check, the event today at Finlay Park raised $315,000.
