A welfare check on young children has resulted in the arrest of three people and the children being removed from the home.
Newberry County deputies were called to a residence on Bachman Chapel Road in Prosperity to check on a medical condition of one of the children.
Before entering the home, officers saw a marijuana plant growing inside, along with a partially smoked marijuana cigarette on the front porch.
Courtney M. Chavis, 21, Fred Sexton III, 29, and Jordon Ethan Manning, 19, were all arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana. A K-9 unit located over one ounce of marijuana separated into small baggies, indicating that the drug would be sold. Other drug paraphernalia was also found in the home.
Deputies say there were three small children inside the residence during the incident, but they were sleeping at the time. They were released to the Department of Social Services.
According to the Sheriff TMs Department, additional charges will be filed against the suspects for their reckless endangerment of the children.
