Mon, 04 Nov 2013 14:11:29 GMT — HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) -- Federal officials say a whale has died after being found off the shore of Hunting Island in Beaufort County. The Island Packet of Hilton Head Island reported ( http://bit.ly/1gmK0Sq ) that a marine biologist says the pygmy sperm whale was spotted in a marsh area Sunday. Jessica Conway with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says the whale was alive when it became stuck on an oyster bed. Conway says the whale died after the tide fell. The cause of death has not been determined. Al Segar with the state Department of Natural Resources said a pygmy sperm whale was also found beached on Hilton Head Island on Oct. 26.
