CADES, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities have charged a woman with reckless homicide in the death of Kingstree High School's women's basketball coach.
A South Carolina Highway Patrol news release says that Daveline Holmes left a convenience store and failed to yield to 39-year-old Sonya Burgess, causing Burgess to swerve to avoid her on Monday evening.
Troopers say the car driven by Burgess overturned and she was ejected and hit by another vehicle.
At a bond hearing Wednesday, Holmes' attorney says she was driving to see her child play basketball and had no idea about the accident until she called authorities.
Burgess' players decided to play Tuesday night, advancing to the Class 2A Lower State championship with a 57-44 win over Lake City. Kingstree will play Bishop England, with the winner advancing to the state championship game.
