COLUMBIA (WACH) - A woman is dead and a man is in custody Monday after a domestic shooting at a home in Richland County.
Sheriff Leon Lott says Dexter Lee Boulware, 41, was arrested Monday and charged with murder and burglary.
The Richland County Sheriff's Department received a call of shots fired on Thornfield Court around 10:30 a.m. Monday.
Lott says Boulware is accused of shooting Tacora Thomas, 27, multiple times in the upper body.
Authorities say Thomas was transported to a local hospital where she later died.
Deputy Curtis Wilson says Thomas and Boulware were husband and wife and were in the process of separating.
Lott says Thomas was at home with her mother when Boulware assaulted both women and shot Thomas.
Boulware fled the scene of the incident to the nearby home of a relative on Durham Creek Court, where he was arrested, according to Lott.
Wilson says one of the neighbors reached out to call for help and tried to give aid to Thomas.
Authorities say the sheriff's department was contacted yesterday after the wife of the suspect received a series of text messages that may have been threatening.
Lott says Boulware had recently been arrested for criminal domestic violence, but was out on bond awaiting his court appearance.
The incident under is investigation by the Richland County Sheriff's Department.
"We are investigating to determine exactly what took place leading up to the shooting," said Wilson.
