West Columbia, S.C. (WACH)-- Agents with SLED are investigating the death of a Lexington County woman.

Just before 9 a.m. Tuesday, deputies performed a welfare check on the 200 block of Haleywood Lane when they discovered a deceased woman inside of the home.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the woman as, 31-year-old Lindsey Nicole Lee of West Columbia.

Lee is a civilian employee with the Lexington County Sheriff's Department. According to Fisher, Lee died as a result of a sharp force injury.

To avoid any conflict of interest, Sheriff Jay Koon asked the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division to investigate Lee's death.

“Lindsey was a valued member of the LCSD family and an integral part of our team,” Koon said. “We’ve extended our heartfelt condolences to her family and we’re actively helping them through this very difficult time.”

Koon said Lee joined the Sheriff’s Department in December 2011.
