RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WACH) --- Richland County deputies are investigating a small mobile home community on Two Notch Road. Major Stephany Snowden with the department said they got a call from a maintenance worker about a woman's body found covered in debris near a dumpster. "This is someone's loved one it is not just a body,” Snowden said. “It's someone who was walking, living, breathing and has family that cares about them."

Authorities said the body was decomposed beyond recognition. They weren’t able to identify the woman’s age or race. Lakeisha Green lives in the community where the body was found. She said the area is known for high crime and nightly shootings. "I am devastated,” Green said. "Every night, every day it's shootings, and I don't care if it's just in the air it's still shooting."

Bennie Backmon is the manager at Go Used Tires, just feet from where the body was found. He said it's no surprise that something like this happened behind his shop. "We had an unusual smell for about two or three days, and we thought it was just the sewage backup,” Backmon said. “But unexpectedly it was something different."

The Richland County Coroner office is expected to perform an autopsy Thursday. Deputies are asking that you contact crime stoppers if you know anything about the case.
