Women are picking up their hammer and nails

WEST COLUMBIA (WACH) - Today some Midlands women picked up their hammer and nails to help another woman in the community.

Habitat for Humanity is currently in day four of their Women Build project.

Seventy five percent of those banding together to build this particular home are women.

And another special addition to the home are some signatures showing love and support for the future owners.

Today was the Honor Your Mother campaign.

People could donate $50 and sign the home, with all the proceeds going towards the expense of building the house.

And volunteers said this project certainly has special significance.

"This is kind of a nice way to show that we too have power within the women's effort to come together and do something for another woman. Dweedy is the homeowner that will take possession of the house and we're doing it all for her but we're also doing it to band together as women." says Susan Steele, a Habitat for Humanity volunteer from SCE&G.

Dweedy and her four year old daughter will be the proud owners of the house once it is finished.
