SC protestors want the UN to recognize Palestine as a member state

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Supporters are calling on the United Nations to recognize Palestine as the 194th UN member state based on the 1967 borders.

According to the Carolina Peace Resource Center Saturdays rally challenges the position of the Obama administration which opposes the Palestinian bid for UN membership.

It TMs scheduled to come for vote in the UN on Tuesday September 20th and has threatened a U.S. Security Council veto.

The Obama administration claims that such a move would undermine negotiations.

The protest was held at the Five Points Fountain in Columbia.

Carolina Peace Resource Center also says the rally also challenges the South Carolina legislatures recent HR 4339 unanimously passed by the house which falsely claims that Israel is neither an attacking force nor an occupier of the lands of others, and is viewed as supporting Israel TMs claim to the West Bank and rejecting any Palestinian state.

The rally was sponsored by the Carolina Peace Resource Center, Students for Statehood and Students for Justice in Palestine-University of South Carolina and was organized with the leadership of Palestinian students at Columbia College and the University of South Carolina.
