ALBANY (WRGB/WACH)-- One in three relationships now start online but with the surge of online dating comes a surge of scammers, too.
Mary, the victim of a scam that started through her online relationship, was told by the scammer that he was living overseas, was in the middle of a divorce, and needed help financially flying home.
â??Initially, it was my own money and then I had to take out loans to help him and then it just snowballed from here.â?? She said.
The scammer came up with the idea to use fraudulent credit cards after Mary ran out of money.
In all, she sent the scammer 200,000 dollars.
