DARLINGTON (WACH) -- Some early afternoon rain didn't spoil the party for Kasey Kahne and Kyle Busch.

Kahne set a track record for qualifying Friday, winning the pole for Saturday's Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway. He had a fast lap of 181.254 mph, breaking the mark of 180.370 set a year ago by Jamie McMurray. Kahne will be joined in the front row by Ryan Newman. Defending race champion Denny Hamlin qualified third, and Carl Edwards and Jeff Gordon round out the top five.

In Friday night's Nationwide Series race, the Royal Purple 200, Kyle Busch won his first ever race at "The Track too Tough to Tame", passing Elliott Sadler with 23 laps to go for his fifth series win this season.

Denny Hamlin finished second, Sadler was third, series points leader Justin Algaier fourth and Steve Wallace fifth.
