Employee airlifted to hospital after being entrapped in elevator shaft

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say 15 people were sickened across the country earlier this year because of salmonella at the Diamond Pet Foods plant in Gaston.

GASTON, S.C. (WACH)-- One person has been airlifted to a local hospital after fire officials say they were entrapped in an elevator shaft.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. Lexington County Fire and EMS responded to a call at the Diamond Pet Food plant in reference to an on-site incident with an entrapment.

According to Lexington County spokesperson Harrison Cahill, first responders were able to successfully extract and stabilize the patient who was then flown by Lifenet1SC to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
