Dawn Staley "Disappointed" with Bracket Placement
Columbia, S.C. (WACH)-- The South Carolina women's basketball team earned a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament for a fourth year in a row in front of a packed house full of fans at The Zone in Williams-Brice Stadium.
Despite the good seeding, head coach Dawn Staley was not pleased with being placed in the Stockton region... meaning, should the team win their first two rounds, they will have to travel multiple time zones despite having won their regular season and conference tournaments. The Gamecocks also lead the nation in attendance for the third year in a row.
"I don't know what went down," Staley said. "But I'm disappointed. I am. I'm very disappointed. We're always the team, three out of the four years that we've been #1 seeds, having to fly across two and three time zones. I'm not gonna say it's not fair, but they gotta figure out a different way, especially when we played ourselves into that #3 number 1 seed."
The Gamecocks open the tournament against (16)UNC-Asheville on Friday at 5 pm at Colonial Life Arena.
