Former Gamecock, Arkansas RB David Williams drafted by Denver Broncos
COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) -- Former South Carolina Gamecock running back David Williams is NFL bound. With the 226th overall pick, the Denver Broncos drafted the 6-foot-1, 230-pound back who transferred to Arkansas this past season.
Williams entered the 2016 season as USC's projected starting running back. But during the first several weeks of fall camp, he quickly found himself in the doghouse.
His role diminished throughout the 2016 campaign and didn't see any action in USC's 46-39 loss to South Florida in the Birmingham Bowl.
Williams finished the year third on the team in rushing with 56 carries for 239 yards and three touchdowns. For his career as a Gamecock. Williams rushed for 794 yards and five touchdowns on 188 carries.
With a year of legibility remaining, Williams transferred to Arkansas for a fresh start. He finished the 2017 season with 656 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.
The Broncos acquired the 226th overall selection after swapping fifth-round picks with the Seattle Seahawks.
