Gamecock Men's and Women's Tennis Going for NCAA Title
It's a big weekend for the University of South Carolina tennis programs.
For the women, they are hosting their 1st and 2nd round matches at the Gamecock Tennis Center for the 2nd year in a row after the Gamecocks earned the #14-seed in this year's tournament.
"I think it's an advantage more than anything else," USC women's tennis head coach Kevin Epley said. "These are our courts that we practice on every day."
The Gamecocks open against North Florida, a team they beat easily back in January.
"We played them earlier this season and we got the W so I think really any opponent we play going forward we're pretty confident with," said sophomore Paige Cline.
As far as the men are concerned, they have it a bit tougher than the women. They will go to Chapel Hill for their regional where they take on East Tennessee State, a team that has won 14 of their last 15 matches.
"They won their conference tournament so they have a lot of confidence," senior Andrew Schafer said. "We've gotta come out ready to battle."
The men's 1st round vs East Tennesse State is at 10 am on Friday. The women play their first round against North Florida at 1 pm on Friday.
