Gamecocks picked to win SEC East

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- For the first time in SEC history the Gamecocks are picked to win the Eastern Division this college football season.

A pre-season poll conducted at the Southeastern Conference Media Days in Birmingham this week places South Carolina at the top of the division according to media members. The defending SEC East champs beat out Georgia and Florida as the favorite.

In addition, 10 USC players made preseason All-SEC teams. Alshon Jeffery, Marcus Lattimore and Stephon Gilmore received first team picks. Stephen Garcia, Devin Taylor and Travian Robertson picked up second team honors, and Kyle Nunn, Rokevious Watkins, Melvin Ingram and Shaq Wilson earned positions on third team.

Gamecocks report for fall camp on August 2.

Alabama was picked to win the West division in the poll as well as the overall SEC. Alabama was placed with 16 All-SEC players.
