WACH: SC State head men's basketball coach gives back to youth in back to school bash
ORANGEBURG, SC (WACH) -- When school starts for elementary and middle school students in a few weeks, some will be going back with some new gear and haircuts thanks to South Carolina State's head men's basketball coach, Murray Garvin.
On Saturday, hundreds of kids of all ages took part in the inaugural "Back to School Basketball Bash in Orangeburg." The free camp was more than just skills and drills as campers received free backpacks, haircuts, meals and even dental products.
"Today was just something incredible," admitted Garvin. "Probably one of the best days of my life. To be able to do something for our Orangeburg community with the help from local businesses and individuals here in Orangeburg County, I just can't say enough how grateful I am."
Garvin, who'll be entering his sixth season as head coach of the Bulldogs this year, put the camp together through his foundation, "Garvin's Goal." The mission of his foundation is to make a positive impact on the youth of the Orangeburg and surrounding communities .
It's safe to say after today that coach did just leaving smiles on kids and parents faces from start to finish.
