Spurrier excludes columnist from press conference

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier refused to start a scheduled press conference Tuesday because a member of the media he disagrees with was in the room.
Spurrier says an article written by State sports columnist Ron Morris falsely accuses him of trying to recruit Bruce Ellington away from Gamecock basketball coach Darrin Horn. The highly touted Ellington was a stand-out in both basketball and football and chose football.
Ellington is currently a top runningback for the Gamecocks.
Spurrier started the conference by saying, "This has been weighing on my chest, and I'm getting it off my chest right here today."
"I just don't like stories that aren't true. Last spring, he wrote a story about me recruiting Bruce Ellington, and luring him away from the basketball program, and raiding and jilting Coach Horn," Spurrier continued, calling Morris a "negative guy." "A completely fabricated story, and I took exception to that. But that's the only thing I take exception from a sportswriter; when they write stuff that isn't true."More Gamecock News... Spurrier then called reporters out of the press room to conduct interviews without Morris included.
Spurrier says Morris is only the second media member to disassociate himself with in his 26-year coaching career.
WACH Fox News reached out to Morris and The State for a comment. Morris declined comment other than saying he stands by his column on Ellington.
