"The Deshaun Show" Comes to Charlotte
The theme for Wednesday night's preseason game between the Carolina Panthers and the Houston Texans quickly turned into a battle between South Carolina and Clemson alum, not to mention the fans..
With former Gamecocks Jadeveon Clowney, Damiere Byrd, and Captain Munnerlyn in action with Clemson's Deshaun Watson, DeAndre Hopkins, and Ben Boulware (mixed between the two teams), Bank of America Stadium was full of Clemson orange and Gamecock garnet and black.
The star of the show, however, was Texans quarterback and former Clemson star Deshaun Watson. Watson played for two and a half quarters in tonight's opening preseason game and had some impressive numbers.
He was 15 for 25/179 yards and ran in a touchdown. Watson was also sacked three times by the Panthers defense.
When asked about seeing Tiger nation fill up a good chunk of Bank of America Stadium, Watson said he was grateful.
"Just to be able to have that support and that fan base, especially when I come back in this area," Watson said. "I just wanna thank all the fans and all the people that support me."
Watson also said it was strange seeing his friend Ben Boulware in the opposing jersey.
"It was weird, especially after I saw him," Watson said. "Going three years with him and now we're on the opposite sideline... it was kinda weird."
The night wasn't all a complete success for Watson, however. The Panthers came out victorious with a 27-17 win, led by 2 touchdowns by former Gamecock Damiere Byrd.
