Thomas Davis tests positive for banned substance; will serve 4-game suspension
Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis made a shocking announcement late Friday afternoon about his future with the NFL.
In a video he posted on his Twitter account, Davis announced he tested positive for a banned substance and will serve a 4-game suspension at the start of the 2018 NFL season.
"I was completely caught off guard by this," Davis said in the video. "I've never, in any way, done anything intentionally to try and cheat the game."
Later in the video, Davis said he's "taken the same substances for the last 7 or 8 years and never had any issues."
The drug he tested positive for is an "estrogen blocker" and Davis said he has never tested positive for steroids or HGH.
Davis has already said 2018 will be his final season in the NFL. But after receiving the news of his 4-game suspension, Davis ended his video by saying "who knows? Maybe this isn't my last year."
