USC faces Virginia again in CWS tonight

OMAHA, NE (WACH) - The Virginia Cavaliers staved off elimination Thursday night, setting up a rematch with the South Carolina Gamecocks in the College World Series.

The Cavaliers eliminated California 8-1 Thursday, and now must beat South Carolina twice to advance to the championship round of the CWS.

South Carolina defeated Virginia 7-1 on Tuesday. A win for USC Friday would send them back to the best-of-three championship series for the second straight year.

"We're going to try to be ready to go, our guys in a good frame of mind," Coach Ray Tanner said Thursday. "We have great perspective on this team, it's just about baseball."

Officials with the USC Athletics Department say left handed pitcher Michael Roth will start in Friday's match up.
