COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - Despite interest from his alma mater, University of South Carolina athletics director Eric Hyman will not be leaving Columbia for North Carolina.
Earlier this week, the University of North Carolina's interest in Hyman as their next athletics director went public. The position has been vacant since former UNC athletics director Dick Baddour retired this summer.
Hyman played football for the Tar Heels during his college years and several sources indicated he had interest in the UNC position. However, according to a statement released late Wednesday, he is not considering a move back to Chapel Hill.
"I am honored to be considered by my alma mater, North Carolina, but my work here has not been finished and I love being a Gamecock," Hyman said in a statement released by the school.
Hyman has been athletics director at USC since 2005.
