WACH: Jets def. Governors 100-99 (OT) in SC Pro Am Championship
COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) -- The Sellers Jets capped off a perfect (5-0) record Sunday defeating the Columbia Jets 100-99 in overtime to capture the SC Pro Am Championship.
South Carolina Gamecocks forward Chris Silva turned the game into a personal highlight reel, in a losing effort for the Governors, scoring a game-high 47 points while adding 19 rebounds, four blocks, four assists and two steals. Teammate Rakym Felder also had an impressive game, scoring 24 points with seven rebounds and five assists.
With under a minute to go, former Clafin standout AJ Caldwell gave the Jets the lead burring a go-ahead three to make it 99-97; the Jets wouldn't look back. Caldell finished with 16 points, nine rebounds and 3 blocks.
The Jets were led by former Benedict star Marcus Goode who scored a team-high 35 points and added nine rebounds. Garden Webb product Jarvis Davis pitched in with 23 points and nine assists.
Following the game, former Gamecock great and commissioner of the SC Pro Am Carey Rich presented both teams with their trophies before saying with a smile, "I'm looking forward to getting some sleep,"
In the six years of the league's existence, dozens of players who have took part in the Pro Am have gone on to play professionally. Rich says it's buzz like that, that makes it easy to sell this event to players.
"We make a concerted effort to make sure it's a first-class product and a safe environment for the players," said Rich, who is constantly giving back to Columbia, year-round through basketball. "I think with the Gamecocks going on their magical run, that adds to what the Pro Am is all about (as well)."
