WCW: Local golfer headed to U.S. Women's Open

Lexington native Lauren Stephenson will play in the U.S. Women's Open in July.

LEXINGTON, SC (WACH)-- Every week, WACH FOX celebrates the ladies of the sports world through our Woman Crush Wednesday Segment.

This week's honor goes to Lexington Native, Lauren Stephenson. Stephenson played at Clemson in 2016 before transferring to Alabama. She just qualified for the U.S. Women's Open, which will take place July 10th-16th in Bedminster, New Jersey.

The Lexington High School graduate beat out former Gamecock Katelyn Dambugh in a local qualifier to clinch her spot in the Open, playing as an amateur.

Stephenson played golf for Lexington High School while in middle school, helping the Wildcats to three consecutive 4A South Carolina State Championships. The rising Junior also won the state individual title in 2013 and 2014. She says her dad got her into golf and gives him a lot of credit for her success.
