What Now? Tanner Looking to the Future of Gamecock Baseball
It's been the question on every Gamecock baseball fans' mind for the past week: will Chad Holbrook stay or go? Just 24 hours ago, they got their answer as Holbrook officially announced his resignation.
In a way, it was a surprising twist. Just a week ago, Holbrook was moving past his team's disappointing season and looking ahead to next year.
"I feel great about my ability to coach and lead this baseball program," Holbrook said.
Today, USC athletics director and former Gamecock baseball head coach Ray Tanner addressed the situation, but never gave a specific reason for Holbrook's decision.
"We put out a release last night that says he resigned," Tanner said. "I think that says what it needs to say."
Fans have been very vocal about the future of Holbrook and his team for the past couple of months. Now, they sit and wait for the coach who will fill Holbrook's position.
"A coach much like the ones who have been here in the past," Tanner said. "A coach that embraces this tradition and embraces this fan base."
And while Tanner made it clear he would not discuss what was said in his personal conversations with Holbrook, he said he feels the future is bright for the South Carolina baseball team. He also feels Chad Holbrook will have no trouble finding a head coaching spot at another prestigious program.
