HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) -- It's Heritage week on Hilton Head Island and organizers are still searching for a title sponsor.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports tournament director Steve Wilmot says the golf tournament is "under the gun" to find a sponsor to replace Verizon, which dropped its sponsorship last year.
The 43rd Heritage holds opening ceremonies Monday. The tournament retained its spot on the PGA tour this year after pledging $4 million of its reserve funds and receiving $1 million from local governments.Read more There's a new green jacket owner Masters fans give Midlands economic boost Heritage official says PGA approves funding plan
Wilmot says it is imperative to have a title sponsor to ensure the future of the Heritage. He says the tournament is talking with several companies but doesn't have a deadline for naming a sponsor.
