Martinez and Traylor named Week 10 Scholar Athletes
Throughout this Friday Night Rivals season, George Sink will recognize an exceptional student athlete from each participating school with a plaque presentation prior to each game.
This week’s Friday Night Rivals Scholar Athletes of the Week Presented by George Sink Injury Lawyers from Newberry High School is Maria Martinez.
Martinez has been a varsity soccer player since 9th grade and has been named team captain and Most Valuable Player.
At school she holds down a 4.678 GPA and is a member of the Beta Club and National Honor Society. She plans to major in political science and international affairs with the goals of becoming an immigration lawyer.
Outside of school Martinez also volunteers with March of Dimes, Meals on Wheels, and is an alter server at church.
This week’s Friday Night Rivals Scholar Athletes of the Week Presented by George Sink Injury Lawyers from Mid-Carolina High School is Charlsy Traylor.
Traylor is a three spot athlete at Mid-Carolina competing in Volleyball, Basketball and Softball. She has a combined five All-Region selections and three All-State selections. As well as being a North/South Volleyball All-Star this season.
At school she has a 4.23 GPA and is active in FCA as well as the Beta Club. She is also a student athletic trainer assistant.
Outside of school Traylor volunteers her time and gives pitching lessons to young girls in the community.
These students are also eligible to win a $5,000 scholarship to be presented at the end of the season courtesy of George Sink.
