Flora looks to take next step under Shaw

AC Flora and new head coach Reggie Shaw hope to get the Falcons over the semifinals hump and play for a state title in 2013.

COLUMBIA (WACH)- The past two seasons, A.C. Flora has made it to the 3A semifinals, and both times have come up short. This season, the Falcons and new head coach Reggie Shaw hope to take that next step and play for a state title.

"You don't reinvent the wheel," Shaw said during Flora's first day of practice in full pads. "If it's going well, you evaluate it and keep doing the same things."

Shaw takes over for Dean Howell who took the White Knoll head coaching position. The Falcons will have a new signal caller under center this fall, but that isn't the only position battle going on.

"We tell our guys everyday that every position is open," Shaw said.

As week zero creeps closer, Shaw is making sure that everyone is on board and prepared before hitting the ground head-on.

"We've taken our time and tried to push and teach," Shaw said. "You've got to make sure those fundamentals are instilled before you try and go full speed."

Shaw and the Falcons will face Howell and White Knoll August 23.
