COLUMBIA (WACH)- Our Game to WACH in Week One is a rivalry matchup featuring the Airport Eagles taking on the Brookland Cayce Bearcats.
Airport has dominated this matchup as of late, winning 13 straight over B-C dating back to 2006. However, Rusty Charpia and company are ready to change that.
"Our guys are tired of it," Charpia said. "They're tired of being on the short end of the stick."
The Bearcats were impressive in their opener last Friday defeating C.A. Johnson 48-0.
For Kirk Burnett and the Eagles, he credits the coaching staff for the job they do instilling the importance of this game to the players.
"Our coaches understand this rivalry," Burnett said. "I think 10 out of our 12 coaches here played here, grew up playing in it and have been around it for 40 years."
The Bearcats are hoping for a different outcome this Friday. Charpia is in his third season at the helm of B-C and feels like the time to turn the corner is now.
"There's a blueprint there," Charpia said. "At other schools about year three or four we've started to reap the benefits of working hard."
And despite the dominance the Eagles have had, Burnett says they're not taking anyone lightly.
"I know they're raring to go," Burnett said. "They probably have one of their better teams in recent memory, and the rivalry is heating up."
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Airport High School.
