Lexington One hires former Coastal coach Bennett

LEXINGTON, S.C. (WACH) - Former Coastal Carolina head football coach David Bennett has been hired by Lexington County School District One.

District officials say Bennett will serve as athletics director and head football coach for the district's new high school River Bluff, which is currently under construction. The school is set to open for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Bennett currently serves as athletics director and guidance counselor at Socastee High School in Myrtle Beach. Before that, Bennett started the football program at Coastal Carolina and served as head coach for 10 years and was named the 2004 and 2010 Big South Coach of the Year.

Bennett coached the Chanticleers to two FCS playoff berths and four Big South Championships. Bennett became an internet sensation near the end of his tenure at Coastal Carolina for the now famous "more dog, less cat" rant during a weekly news conference.

Bennett, a Cheraw native, has an overall coaching record of 125-56.
