Overtime: Week 4 Recaps and Week 5 Preview
On this week's episode of "Overtime," host Corey Miller is joined by Lou Bezjak of The State Newspaper as they discuss the latest in high school football in the Midlands. This week's show focuses on recapping action from week 4, as well as previewing the biggest games in week 5 play.
The biggest storylines from week 4 revolve around the top teams still dominating the football scene with a couple of upsets thrown in there as well.
The Spring Valley Vikings continue to roll this season. In week 4, they beat a very good Lexington team 20-7 to stay undefeated on the year. Miller and Bezjak both unanimously agree the Vikings are the best team in 5A football right now. In week 5, Spring Valley returns home to host the White Knoll Timberwolves, a team that beat the Vikings during the 2016 season.
The biggest upset of week 4 was Blythewood taking down Irmo 21-7. The Irmo Yellow Jackets were unbeaten coming into their matchup against the Bengals, but Irmo struggled the entire night to get any offensive or defensive momentum going. Blythewood, however, came to play and took an early 21-0 lead and never looked back.
Other week 4 recaps include:
Newberry vs Fairfield Central, Keenan vs Columbia, Ben Lippen vs Porter Gaud, Richland Northeast vs A.C. Flora, Ridge View vs Union County, White Knoll vs North Augusta, Dreher vs Calhoun County, and Brookland-Cayce vs Chapin.
Every week, Corey Miller and Lou Bezjak pick their top 5 teams in the Midlands. Here's their picks after week 4 action:
Corey Miller: 1. Spring Valley, 2. Ridge View, 3. Dutch Fork, 4. Irmo, 5. Newberry
Lou Bezjak: 1. Spring Valley, 2. Dutch Fork, 3. Ridge View, 4. Newberry, 5. Gilbert
"Overtime" airs on Thursday nights at 11 pm ET on WACH FOX.
