No. 20 Clemson tops Notre Dame, 67-58, through "gritty" play
CLEMSON, S.C. —
The No. 20 Tigers finally snapped an 0-5 streak against Notre Dame beating the Irish 67-58 inside Littlejohn Coliseum on Saturday. This is the program's first win over Notre Dame since the Irish entered the ACC in the 2013-14 season.
With about a minute to go and Clemson holding a 59-56 lead, Amir Simms swatted a huge block to keep the Irish from scoring. Shelton Mitchell then hit two free throws to seal the deal.
Four Tigers put up double-figured with Gabe DeVoe leading the way with 17 points. Mitchell netted 12 points and tied his career-high with seven rebounds while also contributing five assists.
Clemson moves to 16-3 overall and 5-2 in ACC play as Brad Brownell picks up his 140th win as the Tigers' Head Coach.
Next up: Clemson will travel to No. 2 Virginia on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
